The Window Is Closing on Extended Hours Readiness

The Window Is Closing on Extended Hours Readiness

The operating model decision behind 23½ x 5 trading.

Nasdaq’s Night Session launches December 6, 2026. NYSE Arca and Cboe EDGX are targeting the same window. DTCC’s NSCC has already moved to 24×5 clearing. Most exchanges are responding by extending the session schedule. That’s the easy part, and it isn’t where the real risk sits. The failure shows up in the hours that remain, the shrinking window where end-of-day processing, corporate actions, backups, and maintenance now have to run while the market stays open.

This point of view explains why a longer trading day doesn’t automatically produce a working extended hours operation, what breaks first when it isn’t redesigned, and how NuSummit has already solved this in production.

With this point of view, you’ll:

  • See exactly which dated commitments- Nasdaq’s December launch, NYSE Arca and Cboe EDGX’s late 2026 targets, DTCC’s clearing shift, and the SIP amendment- are forcing this decision now, not someday.
  • Understand why extending session hours compresses, rather than eliminates, the operational work that used to run safely overnight.
  • Get a straight framework for the difference between stretching an existing operating model to cover more hours and rebuilding it for continuous operation.
  • Learn how NuSummit’s 3R model, Reimagine, Reduce, Refine, turns end-of-day processing, disaster recovery, and security into a single continuous design instead of three bolted-together fixes.
  • See the production numbers behind a real extended hours migration, backup and processing times cut by an order of magnitude, and book a working session to map it against your own environment.

Read the point of view to see why session extension alone won’t get you ready, and what an operating model built for continuous trading requires.
